The Alias Studio x FAE Open Call, is an initiative by Serpentine’s Future Art Ecosystems and Alias Studio, inviting creative practitioners to explore generative AI by training their own image-generation models on the Alias platform. The project aims to empower artists to work with AI in a way that keeps creative control and intellectual property firmly in their hands, while opening up new ways to engage with technology.
Italian, London-based artistAndrea Abbatangelo, is one of the practitioners who took part. His work looks beyond the human perspective, diving into the sensorial world of bees and questioning how pesticides might alter their perception. Traditionally rooted in printmaking and photography, Andrea’s practice took on a new dimension during this residency — using AI to prototype speculative bio-materials and simulate how bees might experience the world. We caught up with Andrea to talk about his process, the role of unpredictability in working with AI, and why imagining more-than-human viewpoints matters now more than ever.
