My practice involves both studio work and social engagement activities in public spaces. The latter is based on experimental research and oriented to the collective interest.
In 2007 I was invited to exhibit my work at theLove is ContemporaryFestival in Terni and had the opportunity to engage over several days with some artists (including Nezaket Ekici, Dorte Strehlow, Lotte Linder & Till Steinbrenner) from the Independent Performance Group, directed by Marina Abramovic. Since this experience, Performance has become part of my practice.
I have been involved in residencies since 2007 and between 2010 - 2013 I was commissioned of a series of artist residencies in Northern African Countries, for Marseille / Provence 2013 - European Cultural Capital and my abilities to adapt my methodology of engagement in different contexts have been evolved since then. In the last ten years I’ve worked on different projects focused on themes of participation, co-authoring with groups in diverse public context.
Furthermore, since my contribution in 2018 to Li-E Chen’s project “A Silent Opera on the Life and Art of Tehching Hsieh”, I have deepen my understanding of pioneer artists and performers focused in the public space. Especially artists such as Gordon Matta-Clark, Trisha Brown, Suzanne Lacy and Jaider Esbell. They have turned their personal experiences of immigration, segregation and economic difficulties into a focus for research and engagement. What I most appreciate is the regeneration, through activism and the language of performance, of places to make art for and with the public.
I was recipient of the UAL Scholarship 2021 for the MA Fine Art: Digital (2021 / 2023 ) at Central St Martins. In this context I researched the presence of pesticides in the public space, particularly the impact ofneonicotinoidsonthecognitive systemofwild pollinators. “New Observations on the History of Bees” isthe series of worksfocused on how pesticides disrupt learning and memory in bees and other pollinators. This serieswas previewed during St Martin’s MA Interim Show 2022 titled “This Is Not A Party” at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London. The works have been also presented at Phoenix Art Space in Brighton and Visionary at 13 Soho Square, promoted by The Earth Vision in London. In 2023 I have exhibited 13 works from this series in my first solo show in Germany “A.A.LLES” at Atelierhaus LEW1, in Darmstadt during the festival »12. Darmstädter Tage der Fotografie«. There I had the support of prominent researchers to develop my investigation, which lead me to a series of investigations produced during my artist residency. I was also hosted at the laboratory of the Technische Universität, where I explored aspects of bio-toxicology related to gut bacteria and the decline of pollinators in the forests.
Myworks have beenexhibited in festivals and museums such as La Biennale di Venezia (2011), Documenta 13 (2012), Marseille Provence 2013 / European Cultural Capital, Manifesta 11 & 12 (2016 and 2018), MASP in Sao Paulo, Fundacao Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, De Buren in Brussels, Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato, CCCB in Barcelona and the Today Art Museum, Beijing.
